Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Milton, Georgia on October 8, 2018

MILTON, GA. – October 13, 2018 (northfulton.com) According to an online news report from northfulton.com, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle October 8 in Milton, Georgia. Authorities say charges have not yet been filed.*

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 8, police, firefighters, and EMS crews responded to the scene of a crash on New Providence Road and Atlanta National Drive in Milton. They arrived to find a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. He was dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the man as 69-year-old Thomas Herbert Joe, of Sandy Springs, Georgia. 

The Milton Police Department Crash Response Team investigated the collision at the scene, and the investigation remains active. Charges will be determined at a later date, according to the Milton Police department. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified at this time. 

Milton is located in Fulton County, which includes Atlanta and has a very large population. During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, Fulton County had a major jump in vehicle collisions, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 22,275 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 4,498 injuries and 77 deaths. Sixteen of the fatality accidents that year involved pedestrians.

By 2015, the number of accidents in Fulton County had grown well above 50,000, with fatality accidents reaching above 100. Twenty-eight of the people who died in traffic accidents in 2015 were pedestrians. In 2016, nearly 61,000 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. These vehicle accidents led to 12,875 injuries and 129 deaths, including 41 pedestrian deaths.
