Postal Worker Hospitalized After Driver Crashes into Mail Truck in LaGrange, Georgia

October 29, 2018

LAGRANGE, GA. – October 15, 2018 ( A postal worker has been hospitalized after a driver crashed into her mail truck in LaGrange, Georgia, according to an online news story from*

On October 15, a postal worker was delivering mail in the 700 block of Newton Road in LaGrange. She was pulled over on the side of the road, placing mail in a residential mailbox. The driver of a black pickup truck slammed into the back of the mail truck, sending it off the roadway and into a ditch. The postal worker, who has not been identified, was reportedly inside the delivery vehicle when the crash occurred and nearly fell out of the truck. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup has also not been identified. Georgia State Patrol said he did not apply his brakes before the crash, a detail corroborated by residents on the road who witnessed the incident.

“He never even slowed down,” said resident Carlene Ogletree. “There was no sound of any brakes or anything.”

The driver submitted to a roadside sobriety test at the scene and was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center for a blood test. The results of the test are pending. Charges have not been filed at this time, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers said drivers need to use caution around mail trucks and show carriers respect on the road.

“Citizens on the roadway should slow down and move over, treat [mail carriers] as a law enforcement officer or emergency vehicle on the side of the road,” said Cpl. Jeremy Hilley with Georgia State Patrol. “Slow down, go around them with caution, and be prepared to stop because you never know if something like this could happen.”
