Identity Released of Moped Rider Injured in Atlanta Hit-and-Run

October 23, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – October 15, 2018 (11alive.com) The identity has been released of a woman in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding her moped, according to an online news report from 11alive.com. The crash took place October 7 in Atlanta, Georgia, and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.*

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on October 7, a 58-year-old Wilmotine Jackson was riding a moped along North Avenue in Atlanta. Near Luckie Street NW, a vehicle swerved into Jackson’s lane, and struck her, causing Jackson and her moped to fall to the ground. The vehicle involved fled the scene without stopping, according to police and newly released video surveillance footage.

Several drivers who witnessed the incident stopped to help Jackson while emergency crews were traveling to the scene. Jackson was then transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle is still missing, and police are hoping release of the surveillance footage will allow someone to call in with information about the vehicle or the driver.

“It’s obvious that this driver knew that they struck somebody,” said Atlanta Police Department Sgt. John Chafee. “They even slowed down. So it’s something that’s very brazen and certainly concerning. Anybody that may have been in the area, anybody that may see the vehicle and have it jog their memory — say ‘You know what, I know a car like that; It’s got some damage on the side’ — perhaps anything that may help us with this investigation.”

Tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477 or submitted to crimestoppersatlanta.org. A reward of $2,000 is being offered for any information that leads police to the vehicle or driver.
