Woman in Coma After ATV Accident in Brunswick, Georgia

October 21, 2018

BRUNSWICK, GA. – October 15, 2018 (news4jax.com) A woman is in a coma after an ATV accident that took place in Brunswick, Georgia, according to an online news report from news4jax.com.*

Earlier in October, 49-year-old Beth Simmons, of Brunswick, was riding an ATV near her home. Her husband, Paul Simmons, was working in the garage at the time and said he heard his wife crash while pulling into the driveway.

“When she turned in, she either clipped the concrete culvert or the end of the ditch, and it flipped her around and landed on top of her, upside down,” Paul said of the accident.

Beth, a mother of six, was unconscious following the crash, Paul said, and her husband performed CPR on her until emergency crews arrived and took over. She was transported to UF Health in Jacksonville, Florida, where she has been in a coma since the accident. Doctors said she suffered burns to her body and serious head injuries.

“They said there are seven different locations in her brain where she suffered severe bleeding,” Paul said.

However, Beth is showing signs that she can still move her arms and legs, Paul said, and the family is holding onto hope, thanks in part to relatives and friends who have stepped up to help.

“I never knew we had so much support,” Paul said. “People have been contacting us with a lot of prayers.”

Supporters have also set up a donation page on Facebook to raise money for medical and living expenses. No additional information about the crash has been released at this time.
