One VA Firefighter Killed, Two Severely Injured in Crash During Hurricane Michael

October 29, 2018

VIRGINIA – October 17, 2018 (theepochtimes.com) One Virginia firefighter was killed and two others were severely injured in a vehicle crash that occurred during Hurricane Michael, according to an online news story from theepochtimes.com.*

On October 11, Virginia firefighter Lt. Brad Clark and several of his colleagues were responding to emergency calls during Hurricane Michael, which had been downgraded to a tropical storm at the time. They were standing next to a fire truck on the shoulder of Interstate 295 in central Virginia when a tractor-trailer crashed into the truck.

Clark was tragically killed in the crash, and two other firefighters sustained life-threatening injuries. One of the firefighters, who was working his first day on the job, required a leg amputation due to his injuries. The firefighters have not been identified, but both are reportedly recovering at VCU Medical Center.

Sweeping across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia, Hurricane Michael claimed the lives of at least 30 people, according to new estimates. Twenty people have been confirmed dead in Florida, six in Virginia, three in North Carolina, and one – a young girl – in Georgia. The death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue teams start their second round of searches in some of the hardest-hit areas – Panama City, Callaway, Lynn Haven, and Mexico Beach.

In addition to the loss of life, the storm caused damage to roads, power lines, buildings, and crops all across its path. Damage totals have not been calculated, but Georgia expects a serious hit to its agriculture industry, particularly from damaged chicken houses.
