18-Year-Old College Student from Georgia Killed in Drunk Driving Crash

October 19, 2018

LITHONIA, GA. – October 16, 2018 (wsbtv.com) According to an online news report from wsbtv.com, a college student from Georgia was killed October 13 in what appears to have been a drunk driving crash.*

On October 13, 18-year-old Kennedy Segars was sitting in her vehicle at a stoplight at the intersection of Klondike Road and Mall Parkway in Lithonia, Georgia. Another vehicle rear-ended Segars traveling more than 70 mph. Segars’s car flipped several times and traveled down an embankment. Segars was transported to a local hospital with a brain injury, and she died two days later.

The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended her, 52-year-old Reginald Stubbs, survived the crash and was placed under arrest. He has now been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, following too closely, and driving under the influence. He is being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.

Segars was partially through her freshman year at Alabama State University and was studying to be a lawyer, her family said. She was back in Georgia on a visit for her mother’s birthday.

“Until the day I die, it will still be a pain,” said Segars’s father, Marvin Segars. “They took my baby at 18. This is just horrible. I don’t want nobody to feel this at all.”

DeKalb County officials are continuing to investigate and have not released additional information about the crash. Marvin Segars says the family wants justice for Kennedy, including jail time for the driver who caused the accident.

“We want him to stay behind bars forever,” Marvin Segars said of Stubbs. “He took a life, so his freedom should be taken, as well.”
