Worker Dies in Accident at Georgia Pacific MDF Plant in Pennsylvania

October 19, 2018

MOUNT JEWETT, PA. – October 16, 2018 ( A worker died October 15 in an accident at a Georgia Pacific MDF plant in Pennsylvania. The story is reported online by*

At approximately 1 a.m. on October 15, a work crew was performing scheduled maintenance on the roof of a Georgia Pacific plant near Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania. They were taking out filter bags on the roof, and one of the workers somehow lost his footing. Michael J. Page, 41, fell about 90 feet from the roof and died at the scene, according to the McKean County Coroner’s Office. Page had been with the company about 12 years at the time of the workplace accident

Georgia Pacific spokesperson Rick Kimble said the incident is under investigation, and little information is known at this time.

“We honestly do not have many of the details,” Kimble said. “They were doing scheduled maintenance on the roof of the building. What we’re trying to find out is why Mr. Page fell off the roof. It was about the worst thing I can think of. The mill has been down for a scheduled outage for maintenance. They were doing things they can’t do when the mill is open.”

Kimble said the company will continue its investigation to see if the incident could have been prevented.

“We’re struggling to determine what happened,” he said. “To say that safety is a priority seems a bit lacking at this point. We do everything we can to put safety measures in place and do proper training. We will go back and look. There are certain procedures that should have been in place; we will look to see if all procedures were followed.”
