Woman in Critical Condition After Hit-and-Run Crash in Atlanta, Georgia

October 16, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – October 12, 2018 (fox5atlanta.com) A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a moped October 7 in Atlanta, Georgia. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, according to an online report at fox5atlanta.com.*

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on October 7, a 58-year-old woman (who has not been identified) was riding a moped along North Avenue in Atlanta. Near Luckie Street, a vehicle swerved into the woman’s lane, and struck the woman, causing her and her moped to fall to the ground. The vehicle involved fled the scene without stopping, according to police and newly released video surveillance footage.

Several drivers who witnessed the incident stopped to help the woman while emergency crews were traveling to the scene. The woman was then transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle is still missing, and police are hoping release of the surveillance footage will allow someone to call in with information about the vehicle or the driver.

“It’s obvious that this driver knew that they struck somebody,” said Atlanta Police Department Sgt. John Chafee. “They even slowed down. So it’s something that’s very brazen and certainly concerning. Anybody that may have been in the area, anybody that may see the vehicle and have it jog their memory — say ‘You know what, I know a car like that; It’s got some damage on the side’ — perhaps anything that may help us with this investigation.”

Tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477 or submitted to crimestoppersatlanta.org. A reward of $2,000 is being offered for any information that leads police to the vehicle or driver.
