Single-Vehicle Crash in Cherokee County Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA. – October 12, 2018 (patch.com) One person is dead and another hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash October 11 in Cherokee County, Georgia, according to an online news story from patch.com.*

At approximately 5 p.m. on October 11, 34-year-old Jonathan Harris, of Woodstock, Georgia, was driving a BMW convertible on Bells Ferry Road in Acworth, Georgia. Near Robin Road, Harris lost control of the vehicle and crashed off of the roadway. 

Harris was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the BMW, 42-year-old Gary Bullard, of Woodstock, was ejected from the vehicle and also transported to WellStar Kennestone. Bullard later died of his injuries. 

It is not yet clear what caused Harris to lose control of the vehicle. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the collision, and charges are pending the results of the office’s findings. No additional information has been released at this time. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents in Cherokee County are on the rise. Between 2012 and 2016, the number of crashes in the county more than doubled. The number of injuries from those accidents also nearly doubled. However, the number of fatality accidents seems to be trending down. 

In 2012, 18 fatality vehicle accidents occurred in Cherokee County. That number lowered to 16 in 2013, then to 12 in both 2014 and 2015. By 2016, the number of fatality accidents was down to seven. Most fatal accidents in the county are related to speeding or alcohol or both.
