Safety Concerns Highlighted After Major Limousine Crash

October 20, 2018

USA- 11alive.com reports that the limousine involved in a horrendous fatal crash on Saturday, October 6, 2018,should never have been driving on the road. The vehicle had failed an inspection and was not safe to be driven. Now the collision is leading to scrutiny of the limousine industry.*

Concerns are heightened and relevant now that many students are hiring limos for high school homecoming dances. The vehicle, a Ford Excursion limousine went through a stop sign and crashed killing 20 people in the worst car accident in the states in years. Four of the victims were sisters.

Limousine companies are supported to have state-issuedpermits. In Georgia, companies need permits from the Department of Public Safety, and before hiring a limousine, it isimportant to look into the company and ensure that it is in “good standing with the DPS.” You can also ask to see reports from the vehicle’s inspection and check to see if the vehicle is insured. It is important to make sure that the vehicle  is equipped with seatbelts. People traveling in vehicles who are not properly restrained have an eight times higher risk of being killed in a collision.

You can also look into the driver and make sure that he or she is properly licensed. The driver of the limousine that crashed on Saturday did not have the proper license.

For families who have high school kids heading to homecoming, it is important to make sure that if they are taking a limousine, the company and chauffeur all check out. Failing to research a company could have tragic results.
