October 20, 2018

MACON, GA - According to, a car accident that occurred on Monday, October 9, 2018, in Macon sent five people to the hospital with injuries. The crash took place on Williamson Road when an eastbound Ford Expedition lost control and struck a Kia Optima that was westbound. There were six occupants in the Ford Expedition, including 5 adults and one 11-year-old child. There were four occupants in the Kia, including two children and two adults.*

Police are still investigating the crash.

Head-on collisions only occur on rare occasions, but when they do happen, they can be deadly. Only about 2 percent of all car crashes in the United States involve head-on collisions, and yet these crashes cause 10 percent of all traffic deaths.

Unfortunately, in many places, a head-on collision is not difficult to get into if a driver just fails to pay attention to the road for even a few seconds. In many places, roads do not have any form of blockade or median between opposing lanes of traffic. This means that it does not take much for a driver to veer over the center line. For drivers hit by a wrong-way driver, there is often little or no time to react and avoid the crash.

Some of the major causes of head-on collisions include distracted driving and drunk driving.
