Georgia Pedestrian Killed in Tennessee Hit-and-Run Crash

October 15, 2018

HERMITAGE, TN. – October 9, 2018 ( A Tennessee man has been charged in connection with a pedestrian hit-and-run crash that killed a Georgia man October 8, according to an online news story from*

At approximately 8:40 p.m., 50-year-old Dwight Daniels, of Georgia, was walking across Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage, Tennessee. At the area of Central Pike, a 2000 Ford pickup truck hit Daniels and did not stop. Daniels tragically died of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 24-year-old Christopher Skirvin, returned to the scene of the crash about two hours later, according to police. He reportedly smelled of alcohol, had watery, bloodshot eyes, and admitted to drinking three beers earlier in the day. Skirvin consented to a breath test, which indicated his blood alcohol content was .09.

Skirvin was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, driving on a revoked license, and failure to render aid. He was not charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication because officials were not able to find sufficient evidence tying Skirvin’s intoxication to the cause of the crash. He has been released on a $7,000 bond.

The area in which the crash occurred is poorly lit, according to police. Police also noted Daniels was not walking inside a crosswalk at the time of the crash, but it is not clear whether a crosswalk was available in the vicinity of Old Hickory Boulevard and Central Pike.

Local authorities are continuing to investigate the collision and have not released additional information to the public at this time.
