One Fatality Reported in DeKalb County Multi-Vehicle Crash

October 15, 2018

DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – October 11, 2018 (ajc.com) According to an online news report from ajc.com, a multi-vehicle crash October 11 on Interstate 20 in DeKalb County, Georgia, led to the death of one person.*

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on October 11, a wreck involving seven to nine vehicles occurred on I-20 East, just before the Interstate 285 interchange. Authorities released few details regarding the circumstances of the crash, but it appears the accident was related to the effects of Hurricane Michael, which was downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved across Georgia.

“I think there’s little doubt that this crash … [was] a result of driving on wet pavement as the remnants of Michael came through metro Atlanta,” said Traffic Center reporter Mark Arum.

Six or seven people were injured in the crash and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their current medical conditions are not known. At least one person died in the collision. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The crash shut down the interstate for more than six hours. Outbound traffic on I-20 was routed off at Columbia Drive during this time. All lanes reopened around 9 a.m. on October 11. Authorities are still investigating the crash and have not released additional information at this time.
