Wanted Driver Crashes and Kills Passenger in Spaulding County, Georgia

October 12, 2018

SPAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A man wanted by police crashes his sedan head-on into a pickup truck on Highway 16 in the vicinity of Griffin, Ga. The impact killed the passenger in the pickup. The responding officers from the Georgia State Patrol placed the driver in custody shortly after the accident because police found outstanding warrants for his arrest. The fleeing offender crashed his vehicle in the morning hours of Friday, October 5, 2018, according to Georgia State Patrol officers who responded have the accident under investigation.*

The incident started when an on-duty Georgia State Patrol officer traveling on Highway 16 in Spalding County observed a sedan traveling about 90 miles per hour on Highway 16. The trooper indicated in the preliminary report that the trooper intendedto reverse directions and give chase to the speeding sedan. The trooper decided that engaging in pursuitand that instant was dangerous because of the number of cars the trooper would have to overtake to engage the speeding vehicle and the speed of the vehicle itself.

The officer followed the sedan without a pursuit. The sedan continued its flight atbreak-neckspeed on Highway 16 until reaching the area of Maloy Road. On the west side of Maloy Road, the sedan side-swiped on the carglanced offand slammed into a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction.

The feeling sedan struck the pickup on the passenger’s front side. A photo of the wrecked car shows the passenger’s front quarter also crushed up to the windshield. Spiderwebcracks are visible across the entire windshield.  The driver was not injured. Georgia State Patrol officers arrested the driver of the sedan on warrants from Spalding County.

Police identified the passenger of the pickup truck as 46-year-old Wendy Boyd from Jenkinsburg. The driver of the car that got side-swiped was treatedand released from a local hospital. Authorities have not stated the charges the driver of the sedan will face in connection with the deadly crash.
