October 09, 2018

HEMPSTEAD COUNTY, AR. – October 5, 2018 (texarkanagazette.com) Two young children were killed in a car crash October 4 in Hempstead County, Arkansas, according to an online news report from texarkanagazette.com. The children reportedly had ties to Georgia.*

The crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on October 4 on Hempstead County Road 324. A car carrying five people reportedly crashed into a ditch just east of the Clow community in Hempstead County. It is not yet clear how the accident occurred. Only one vehicle was involved.

The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office said the occupants of the car ranged in age from 3 years to 18 years. All five people were transported via a private vehicle to Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas. Two children from the car, ages 3 and 5, died at the hospital. The other three occupants of the car were not seriously injured, according to authorities. None of the victims has been identified, pending notification of next-of-kin. Officials say the family members of the victims live in Georgia.

“We found out about the accident when the hospital called the sheriff’s department,” said Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton. “Someone went to a house and used a tractor to pull the car out of the ditch. They didn’t notify EMTs until they were at the hospital, and the hospital called us.”

The Arkansas State Police and the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the collision and have not released additional information at this time.

The site of the accident, Clow, is located approximately 15 miles north of Hope, Arkansas, and about 8 miles south of Nashville, Arkansas. Hempstead County Road 324 runs near the Hempstead-Howard county line in Arkansas.
