Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Accident

BIBB COUNTY, GA. – October 5, 2018 (41nbc.com) According to an online news report from 41nbc.com, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred October 5 in Macon, Georgia.*

At approximately 7 a.m. on October 5, 51-year-old Carvin Hill, of Macon, was attempting to cross Broadway Street at the intersection with Houston Road. Deputies say Hill was walking east and stepped in front of a northbound Dodge Ram pickup truck that was turning onto Broadway from Houston.

Hill died at the scene. The driver of the pickup has not been identified. He or she was not injured in the accident. It is not clear whether any charges will be filed. Bibb County authorities are still investigating and have not released additional information.  

Bibb County is located in the central portion of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of approximately 155,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 16, Interstate 75, Interstate 475, U.S. Route 23, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 80, and U.S. Route 129. 

Vehicle accidents in Bibb County have seen a dramatic increase in the last several years, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 858 accidents occurred in the county, leading to 220 injuries and 17 fatalities. The total number of accidents actually dropped the following year, to 696, but the number of fatalities grew to 31, which was the highest number of traffic deaths in Bibb County during a five-year period. 

After 2013, vehicle accidents in Bibb County skyrocketed. In 2014, 2,547 accidents happened in the county, leading to 689 injuries and 23 deaths. By 2016, a total of 7,617 accidents occurred in the county, which resulted in injuries to 2,144 people and in the deaths of 28 people.
