Teacher Begins Fundraising Page for Family of Child Killed in GA Car Crash

October 05, 2018

DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – October 2, 2018 (fox5atlanta.com) Fundraising efforts have begun for the family of a 5-year-old child killed in a vehicle accident in DeKalb County, Georgia. The woman who caused the accident has been charged for the accident and will face additional charges in connection with the child’s death.*

On September 27, 52-year-old Michell Wierson, of Avondale Estates, Georgia, was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan westbound on Midway Road in Decatur, Georgia. At the intersection of Midway Road and South Candler Street, Wierson struck a Toyota Corolla that was sitting at a red light. Wierson continued driving into the intersection and struck another vehicle before exiting her car. She then began running in and out of traffic. DeKalb County Police say she was behaving erratically and began assaulting a police officer at the scene.

Wierson was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, battery, serious injury by vehicle, and following too closely. The driver of the Corolla, who has not been identified, was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A 5-year-old boy in the Corolla was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The boy died two days later. Wierson will now face additional criminal charges in connection with the boy’s death.

DeKalb County authorities are continuing to investigate and have not yet provided additional information to the public. A former teacher of the 5-year-old boy has started a GoFundMe page to help his family. The page says the boy was “an outgoing, smart, kind, funny 5 year old with a heart of gold.”
