October 05, 2018

TALIAFERRO COUNTY, GA. – October 3, 2018 (wjbf.com) A traffic collision that killed two people October 3 blocked traffic for several hours in Taliaferro County, Georgia, according to an online news story from wjbf.com.*

The crash occurred during the morning of October 3, at approximately 5 a.m. A vehicle traveling westbound on I-20 reportedly ran off the interstate, then crossed into the eastbound lanes before swerving off the road again and striking a tree. The vehicle was a 2009 Nissan Altima, according to dispatch reports. A male driver and female passenger in the vehicle both died at the scene. Neither has been identified.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, but it would appear the driver overcorrected after the initial run-off-the-road incident. The eastbound lanes of I-20 were closed from mile marker 151 to mile marker 154 following the accident. They remained closed for much of the morning, blocking traffic in Taliaferro County. Georgia State Patrol is investigating and has not released additional information at this time.
