Georgia Man Killed After Crashing into Tractor on Ga. 309

DECATUR COUNTY, GA. – October 3, 2018 (wctv.com) A Georgia man was killed October 2 after crashing his vehicle into the back of a tractor on Ga. 309, according to an online news report from wctv.com.*

The accident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. on October 2, near Ga. 309 and Lambert Harrell Road in Decatur County, Georgia. Reports from Georgia State Patrol indicate 79-year-old Calvin Hunter, of Whigham, Georgia, was driving north on Ga. 309 and struck the rear tires of a tractor that was stopped on the side of the road. Hunter died at the scene.

It is not clear why the tractor was stopped on the road. The driver of the tractor, identified as a man from Bainbridge, Georgia, was not injured. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not indicated whether any charges will be filed. 

This was the second fatal vehicle accident to occur in southwest Georgia on October 2. The first occurred at approximately 11:53 a.m. on October 2. Kenneth Scarborough, 62, of Columbus, Georgia, was driving a 1999 GMC Sierra northbound on Ga. 91 in Donalsonville. Near the area of Grady Cobb Road and the Miller County line, Scarborough crossed the centerline of the roadway and crashed into a southbound 2019 Kia Soul head-on.

Scarborough sadly died at the scene. The driver of the Kia, 74-year-old Paul Dukes, of Damascus, Georgia, also died at the scene. A passenger in the Kia, 75-year-old Annie Price, of Colquitt, Georgia, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. She died of her injuries later that day.
