MOULTRIE, GA. – October 2, 2018 (moultrieobserver.com) According to an online news report from moultrieobserver.com, a trucker from Moultrie, Georgia, has been charged in connection with a June vehicle accident that killed a 42-year-old woman.*

The collision occurred on June 8 on Highway 133 northbound about three miles north of Moultrie. Reports indicate 26-year-old Kristen Smith, of Jacksonville, Florida, and her mother, Sheila Marie Alston, 42, of Jacksonville, were driving back to Florida after visiting a relative in Georgia. At approximately 4 p.m., the Dodge pickup Smith was driving collided with a tractor-trailer hauling a load of lumber.

Smith reported to Georgia State Patrol Troopers that she and the driver of the tractor-trailer moved into the same lane at about the same time, then both swerved in the same direction to try to avoid hitting each other. Predest Wright, of Dougherty County, was driving the semi-truck, and his 14-year-old daughter was with him in the truck at the time of the accident.

Wright was not injured in the accident, and his daughter sustained non-life threatening injuries. The daughter was transported to Colquitt County Regional Center. Smith sustained injuries to her lung and ribs and was transported to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville for treatment. Alston died at the scene of the crash.

Almost four months after the accident, Wright has now been charged with homicide by vehicle and speeding. He was booked in the Colquitt County Jail and is awaiting a hearing. No additional information has been reported at this time.
