Car Crashes into Gwinnett Playground After Driver Suffers Seizure

October 05, 2018

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – October 2, 2018 (ajc.com) According to an online new story from ajc.com, a driver in Gwinnett County, Georgia, suffered a seizure October 2 and crashed her vehicle into a daycare playground.*

On the morning of October 2, Gwinnett County parents were dropping their children off at the Kids R Kids Learning Academy daycare, when a woman drove into the daycare’s playground. The 23-year-old driver reportedly suffered a seizure, swerved off the roadway, struck a curb near the daycare’s fence, and flipped into the playground. No child was harmed in the accident.

The driver, who has not been identified at this time, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her current medical condition is not known.

“We were all in shock and screaming,” said Courtney Walker, a parent who was taking her 1-year-old child to Kids R Kids at the time of the accident. “We were trying to find out where are the kids? Are any of the kids under the car?” Walker said she worked with other parents and teachers to ensure all of the children were safe.

The owner of Kids R Kids, Tony Van Valkenberg, said the daycare’s thorough preparedness drills likely helped teachers and staff to quickly clear the area and verify the safety of all children present.

“We plan for these things all the time, but you don’t wake up in the morning thinking a car’s going to go through your playground,” Van Valkenberg said.

Gwinnett officials are investigating the collision and have not released additional details to the public at this time.
