Two Pedestrians Struck by Vehicles Less than 12 Hours Apart in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA. – October 1, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a pedestrian was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle October 1 in Savannah, Georgia. The incident was the second pedestrian crash in Savannah in less than 12 hours.*

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on October 1, 68-year-old Terrell Narcisse was crossing the roadway at the intersection of Liberty Street and Montgomery Street in Savannah. A Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound on Liberty Street struck Narcisse, causing him serious injury. He was transported to a local hospital, where is current medical condition is not known. The driver of the Nissan, 26-year-old Joshua Cabrera, was not injured. 

Less than 12 hours earlier, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 30, 60-year-old Stephen Lane, of Savannah, was attempting to cross West Bay Street in Savannah, between Jenks Street and Fell Street. A Lexus traveling westbound on West Bay Street struck Lane as he was walking across the roadway. Lane was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current medical condition is not known. The driver of the Lexus, 56-year-old Anthony Scott, of Pooler, Georgia, was reportedly not injured. Initial investigation revealed Scott did not see Lane before he hit him. 

It is not clear whether Narcisse or Lane were walking in crosswalks at the time of the crashes. Savannah Police are investigating both crashes and have not yet released additional information. 

According to an article from NPR, pedestrian fatalities in the United States are a significant problem. In 2017, nearly 6,000 pedestrians died in traffic accidents in the U.S., a number that represents a 25-year high for the second year in a row. Pedestrian deaths increased by 27 percent from 2007 to 2016.
