Officers Searching for Passenger Involved in Police Chase Near Georgia-Florida Border

October 02, 2018

NASSAU COUNTY, FL. – October 1, 2018 (fbnewsleader.com) According to an online news report from fbnewsleader.com, law enforcement officers in Florida are searching for a passenger involved in a police chase and subsequent vehicle crash that occurred October 1 near the Georgia-Florida border.*

The chase began during the early morning hours of October 1 in Kingsland, Georgia. A Kingsland police officer was pursuing a Mercedes SUV on Interstate 95 South. The SUV entered the Agricultural Inspection Station on I-95 right near the border of Georgia and Florida and crashed into a trailer carrying more than 20 alpacas. One of the alpacas was seriously injured.

After the crash, the driver of the SUV and a passenger fled the scene on foot. An initial search for the two was unsuccessful, but officers later located the man they suspect was driving the SUV, 28-year-old Edison Garcia Arpon, of Miami, Florida. Arpon had been hiding in a wooded, swampy area, and he was transported to the Nassau County Jail. He is facing charges of leaving the scene of a traffic crash and resisting arrest. He might soon face charges in Georgia, as well.

When officers searched the abandoned Mercedes SUV, they discovered several stolen checks and garbage bags with both opened and unopened mail. The passenger from the SUV is still at large. Officers believe the passenger is a male in his 20s or early 30s. He could be Hispanic and could be wearing soiled clothing from fleeing police.

Authorities are continuing to investigate and have not released additional details at this time. Anyone with possible information about this person is encouraged to call authorities.
