Georgia State Patrol Looking for Witness to Deadly Cartersville Crash

October 03, 2018

CARTERSVILLE, GA. – September 29, 2018 (patch.com) Georgia State Patrol Troopers are looking for a witness to a deadly vehicle crash that took place September 29 in Cartersville, Georgia. The story is reported online at patch.com.*

At approximately 1:45 a.m., 20-year-old Steven Jarmal James, of Euharlee, Georgia, was driving a pickup truck in the left lane of Ga. 113. Just south of Old Alabama Road, James attempted to navigate a curve in the road and veered to the east side of the roadway. He then overcorrected and traveled off the west side of the roadway, where he crashed into a guardrail. James was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, and he died at the scene.

A bystander at the scene told Troopers that she saw a second pickup truck parked in the left lane directly beside James’s truck. She said this pickup was a green Chevrolet, and the driver was sitting with his lights off. She approached the driver and talked to him briefly, but he drove away, she said, when she asked whether he had called 911. She described the pickup driver as a white male with short, dark hair. He was around 6 feet tall, she said.

Troopers believe alcohol might have been a factor in James’s crash. They do not believe the second pickup truck was involved in the collision but believe the driver might have valuable information as a witness to the crash. Troopers are asking for the public’s help in locating this witness. Anyone with potential information is encouraged to call the Troop A Communications Center at (770) 387-3701.
