DILLWYN, VA. – September 30, 2018 (waow.com) According to an online news story from waow.com, a car crashed into a horse-drawn buggy September 30 in Buckingham County, Virginia. The crash killed the horse and caused injuries to all four people involved.*

On the morning of September 30, 18-year-old Haley Taylor (city not reported) was driving a 2002 Honda in Dillwyn, Virginia, when she crashed into the back of a horse-drawn buggy. Taylor’s car flipped, and the buggy was destroyed in the collision.

Taylor sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The occupants of the buggy, an 18-year-old male, a 16-year-old male, and a 20-year-old female, were all seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current medical conditions are not known. Police say the 18-year-old male was driving the buggy the time.

The horse died in the collision, according to police. Taylor has reportedly been charged with reckless driving. It is not clear whether she has retained counsel. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and have not released additional information at this time.

According to an online article from Psychology Today, more than one million animals die every day in the United States from collisions with motor vehicles. Vehicle collisions are the leading cause of animal (vertebrate) deaths in the United States. Far more animals are killed on roads each year than by hunting. Not only are these types of accidents killing animals, they are also dangerous for people. Particularly in collisions with larger animals, like deer, drivers and passengers are at risk for serious injuries.
