Man From Georgia Dies in Jeffersonville Semi Truck Crash

October 01, 2018

LOUISVILLE, KY- According to wdrb.com, a truck driver from Gainesville, Georgia died in a crash on Thursday, September 27, 2018. The truck was the only vehicle involved in the collision.*

The reports indicate that the collision only involved the one vehicle. The crash took place at about 5:30 p.m. on a ramp.

The truck was transporting steel at the time of the crash. The truck reportedly went entirely off of the roadway and ended up in the grass. The truck reportedly rolled over. The cause of death has not yet been reported.

Truck accidents killed 3,986 people in 2016. In most accidents involving trucks, the victims are not people who were traveling in the truck. The largest proportion of truck accident victims are other vehicle occupants who make up 66 percent of all truck-relatedfatalities. When truck occupants die in crashes, it is in accidents involving other trucks 67 percent of the time. Rollovers are involved in 55 percent of truck occupant deaths. Trucks have a higher risk of rolling over than cars or SUVs.

Truck drivers who are younger, such as those in their 20s, are more likely to be involved in both fatal or non-fatal crashes. Part of the issue is likely to experience because large truck, which weighs around 20 or 30 times as much as other vehicles, can be quite difficult to maneuver. Stopping a semi-truck can take anywhere from 20 to 40 times as long as stopping a smaller vehicle. In bad weather, a truck can take even longer to stop, creating a risk of collisions. Another factor is truck driver fatigue. Truck drivers often drive for stretches as long as 11 hours.
