Motorcycle Wreck Kills Fountain Inn Man in Simpson, Georgia

October 01, 2018

GREENVILLE COUNTY, GA- According to, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at about 3:10 p.m. The victim was identified as 20-year-old James Hampton Wade, of Fountain Inn.*

The crash took place on West Georgia Road. Emergency responders transported Wade to the Greenville Memorial Hospital. Wade was declared dead at the hospital at about 4:34 p.m.

The incident is still under investigation. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Motorcyclists are vulnerable because their vehicles do not provide the same protection as cars and other vehicles. Another problem faced by motorcyclists is that they are often overlooked by other drivers. These smaller vehicles can go unnoticed by drivers who are making left turns or changing lanes, leading to the motorcycle being cut off, and in many cases, unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.

The best protection for a motorcycle is a helmet. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), helmets can reduce the risk of a motorcyclist dying by about 37 percent. Helmets are also effective at lowering the chances of brain damage by around 67 percent. In Georgia, all motorcyclists are required by law to use a helmet.

Another way for motorcyclists to improve their safety is to wear brightly colored clothing so that drivers are more likely to see them before they change lanes or turn. While drivers are responsible for sharing the road with motorcycles, motorcyclists benefit by remembering that they have to be especially cautious to avoid being involved in devastating crashes.
