September 29, 2018

COBB COUNTY, GA- Mdjonline.com reports that a multiple vehicle crash took place on Interstate 75. The crash injured five people, one of them seriously, and left a tractor-trailer burning. Emergency Services received multiple calls about the crash at about 1:06 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. The report indicates that a driver stopped and was struck from behind by another vehicle. A tractor-trailer rear-endedanother truck. The tractor-trailer that was in the back caught fire.*

All northbound lanes were closed because of the crash. Crews worked to clear the scene. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) reported that all lanes were opened by about 3:30 p.m.

The authorities did not release the names ofany of the people involved in the collision.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports that11 percent of all traffic deaths involved large trucks. When large trucks crash with other vehicles, the consequences are faced by the drivers and passengers traveling in the other vehicle. In fact, in fatal collisions involving trucks and passenger vehicles, the victim or victims were traveling in the passenger vehicle 97 percent of the time.

The occupants of large trucks are less frequently killed in crashes. When large truck occupants are killed in accidents, the crashes involved more than one truck 67 percent of the time.

While the size and weight of trucks makesthem a major risk to other people on the road, it also makes the harder to drive and control. When large trucks have to stop, they take between 20 to 40 times as long to do so than a smaller vehicle. Would take. The fact that trucks cannot stop quickly makes them dangerous in situations where they need to slow down to avoid a collision.
