Northbound Lanes of I-75 Blocked After Multiple Vehicle Collision in Cobb County, Georgia

September 30, 2018

COBB COUNTY, GA- According to a car crash on Interstate 75 caused traffic delays on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. The multiple vehicle crash involved two trucks and two other vehicles. One of the trucks caught fire in the wreck.*

The truck that caught on fire was completely destroyed. Two individuals sustained injuries in the collision. Reports from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) indicate that drivers taking the highway should anticipate long delays.

The crash also led to delays on Barrett Parkway because police were directing traffic away from the interstate.

Highway fires are uncommon, but they can be deadly. In 2015, the National Fire Protection Agency reports that there were 174,000 car fires which caused 445 fatalities. Car fires can be caused by collisions although more frequently they are the result of issues with the electrical system or the fuel system

When car fires happen, regardless of the cause, it is important to act quickly. According to the National Safety Council, if your car catches fire while you are driving, you should signal and then pull over in a safe place and then bring the vehicle to a stop. The ignition should be turned off. Everyone should exit the vehicle, and no one should return in order to get any items that were left behind. People should move a good distance away from the vehicle. Try to stay around 100 feet away in order to avoid not just the flames, but also the toxic fumes from the burning vehicle. You should call 911, and if it is safe and possible, alert oncoming traffic.
