Two Vehicle Collision Kills a Woman From Montgomery, Alabama

September 30, 2018

MONTGOMERY, AL- writes that a woman was killed on Monday, September 24, 2018,on a two-vehicle collision. The crash took place at about 5:30 in the afternoon on the Atlanta Highway close to Wares Ferry Road.*

The victim, Shirley Nulton, 67, died when the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a crash with a 2018 International 400. Nulton was traveling in a 2007 Nissan Murano.

Nulton was declared dead at a nearby hospital. The driver of the vehicle the victim was in was also injured in the crash and was taken to the Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

In 2017, 1,550 people died on roadways in Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is participating in a program with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). AASHTO is working to lower the number of traffic accidents that happen across the United States by 1,000 every year. Georgia’s attempt to work towards this goal includes a state objective of lowering the number of people killed by 41 every year.

In 2017, Georgia failed to reduce the traffic-related death toll by its stated goal, and the number of people killed is far higher than the state’s low of 1170 in 2014.

GDOT plans to continue promoting its driver safety campaign called “Drive Alert Arrive Alive,” and will be investing in other programs to further aid in the efforts to reduce traffic deaths. One potential way to lower traffic fatalities is by using Artificial Intelligence, which could be used to predict when crashes are likely to happen and to thereby, help prevent them.
