September 29, 2018

MIAMI, FL- Therealdeal.com writes that a construction worker was killed in Miami on when he was possibly electrocuted on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The accident took place at Midtown 8. Reports indicate that the victim had been working on  the building’s elevator system. The victim was rushed to the Ryder TraumaCenter where he was declared dead.*

According to the foreman working on the project, the worker was on the twenty-fourth floor when it collapsed while working in the interior elevator system. Other workers attempted to revive the victim and performed CPR. They transported the man to the first floor of the building to get him to the paramedics.

The company carrying out the project, Kast Construction, released a statement calling the incident an “overwhelming tragedy” and stated that they would cooperate with the investigation being carried out by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Kast Construction was working on a project in West Palm Beach in 2016 when a worker died after falling from the building’s 15thfloor.

Construction workers have one of the most dangerous jobs in the United States. According to statistics published by OSHA, in 2016, more than 21 percent of all fatal work-related accidents happened within the construction industry. Many of these deaths happen in four categories of construction industry accidents, which OSHA has termed the “Fatal Four.” Electrocutions are one of the four common causes of construction worker fatalities, along with falls, being struck by objects and “caught-in/between” accidents.  According to OSHA, “Eliminating the Fatal Four would save 631 workers’ lives in America every year.”
