September 26, 2018

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL- Bradenton.com reports that a crash involving a truck and a semi-truck led to fruit trees spilling across Interstate 75 on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The collision took place in the southbound lanesclose to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard at about 6 in the morning. The trucks were both traveling south when they collided.*

The driver of the truck, a 59-year-old man fromTavares, was driving behind a semi-truck and rear-ended the front truck. The impact of the collision caused the fruit trees to fall out of the truck and cover the interstate. The semi ended up on the grass shoulder of I-75.

A 46-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from Georgia, were traveling in the semi when it was hit, neither reported experiencing injuries in the crash. The other truck ended up in a median. The driver of the truck that hit the other truck reported some minor injuries.

Debris from the crash spread across the road and was struck by a 25-year-old woman driving a 2005 Toyota Camry. The driver of the Camry pulled over to the side of I-75.

Reports indicate that the truck driver who struck the other truck was “cited for careless driving.”

The collision caused the southbound lanes to be shut down until about 9:30 in the morning. Long delays were reported during Tuesday morning’s rush hour.

While rushhour is always a busy time to drive, traffic accidents can cause “surprise disruptions” in traffic flows leading to even longer commute times. There are plenty of other factors that canlead to traffic delays, but car accidents account for around 25 percent of all unexpected disruptions.
