Man Crashes into Ambulance in Hwy 29 in Coweta County, Georgia

COWETA COUNTY, GA. – September 18, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a man crashed his vehicle into an ambulance September 17 in Coweta County, Georgia. Only minor injuries were reported.*

The accident occurred on September 17 at Highway 29 and Country Club Road in Newnan, Georgia. A man driving a Chevrolet Equinox on Country Club Road attempted to turn right onto Highway 29 and apparently made too wide of a turn. He crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck an oncoming ambulance. 

The ambulance swerved to try to avoid the collision and ended up in a ditch off of the road. Both the ambulance and the Equinox sustained extensive vehicle damage, but only minor injuries were reported by Georgia State Patrol. The ambulance driver was not injured, and the driver of the Equinox was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Neither of the drivers has been identified at this time. No passengers were in either vehicle.

Newnan is located in Coweta County in the western portion of the state of Georgia. The county is part of the Atlanta metro area and has an estimated population of 143,000. Its major roadways include Interstate 85, U.S. Route 27, and U.S. Route 29.

Vehicle accidents in Coweta County have risen in the last several years, according to data collected by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 1,518 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, resulting in injuries to 444 people and 13 deaths. In 2016, the number of vehicle accidents in Coweta County had increased to 4,349. These accidents resulted in 1,118 injuries and 22 fatalities.
