Driver Charged for Crashing into Colquitt County Deputy’s Vehicle
MOULTRIE, GA. – September 18, 2018 (moultrieobserver.com) A driver who crashed into a Colquitt County deputy’s patrol vehicle has been charged with failing to yield at a stop sign, according to an online news story from moultriobserver.com.*
At approximately 4:45 p.m. on September 17, 20-year-old Miguel Lopez-Blasica was driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner eastbound on Gene McQueen Road in Moultrie, Georgia. At the intersection with Highway 33, he pulled into the path of a Colquitt County deputy driving a 2015 Dodge Charger patrol vehicle on Highway 33. The two vehicles then collided, and the 4Runner rotated and struck the patrol vehicle again.
Lopez-Blasica and the deputy, 28-year-old Ivon Folsom, of Moultrie, were transported to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. They have both since been released. It does not appear any passengers were in either vehicle.
Preliminary investigation by Georgia State Patrol indicated Lopez-Blasica stopped at the stop sign but did not wait until the intersection was clear to proceed. Two witnesses told authorities that Lopez-Blasica pulled out in front of the deputy. He was charged with failure to yield at a stop sign. No additional information has been released at this time.
Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows that Colquitt County was the site of 776 vehicle accidents in 2016. These accidents led to 233 injuries and eight deaths. During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, the highest number of vehicle accidents in the county occurred in 2013 with 920 recorded. This was a huge jump from the previous year, during which 191 accidents occurred in Colquitt County.
