Man on ATV Charged with Reckless Driving in Moultrie, Georgia

MOULTRIE, GA. – September 18, 2018 (moultrieobserver.com) According to an online news report from moultrieobserver.com, a man driving an ATV was charged with reckless driving after almost running a car off the road September 17 in Moultrie, Georgia.*

At about 3:30 p.m. on September 17, police in Moultrie received a call from a woman who said a black ATV was swerving across Highway 133 and nearly ran her vehicle off the road. The ATV turned from Highway 133 onto Industrial Drive, then drove to Veterans Parkway by way of the Southern Regional Technical College. 

Police followed the ATV driver to a residence on Rowland Drive and identified him as 44-year-old Steve Ray Miller. Officers discovered upon approaching Miller that he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and reckless driving. No additional information regarding the incident has been released at this time. The woman who called police has not been identified. 

Moultrie is located in Colquitt County in the south-central part of the state. The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety compiled crash data for Colquitt County during the years 2012 through 2016 and found surprising jumps in the number of annual vehicle accidents during this time. In 2012, 191 vehicle accidents occurred in Colquitt County. The following year, the total number of accidents jumped to 920. 

However, during the next year, in 2014, 749 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. Accident numbers then stay about the same leading to 2016. From 2012 to 2016, vehicle accidents resulted on average in about 187 injuries and about 10 fatalities.
