Woman Charged in Connection with Atlanta Crash that Killed Motorcyclist

ATLANTA, GA. – September 20, 2018 (cbs46.com) A woman has been criminally charged in connection with a vehicle crash September 16 that killed a motorcyclist in Atlanta, Georgia, according to an online new story from cbs46.com.*

At approximately 3 a.m. on September 20, 34-year-old Christine Taylor ran a red light at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Bell Street in Atlanta. In so doing, she struck a motorcyclist who was riding through the intersection. The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene. 

Atlanta Police report that Taylor was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, speeding, and other driving-related charges. It is not yet clear when she will appear in court. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. 

Atlanta is located in Fulton County and extends partially into DeKalb County, Georgia. Fulton County has a population of more than 1 million and sees numerous vehicle accidents every year. During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, Fulton County had a major jump in vehicle collisions, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. 

In 2012, a total of 22,275 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 4,498 injuries and 77 deaths. By 2015, the number of accidents had grown well above 50,000, with fatality accidents reaching above 100. Fatal accidents in 2015 included 15 motorcyclists. In 2016, nearly 61,000 vehicle accidents occurred in Fulton County. These vehicle accidents led to 12,875 injuries and 129 deaths. Fifteen of those fatal accidents involved motorcyclists.
