GSP Trooper Involved in Wreck Responding to Vehicle Accident Call

THOMASVILLE, GA. – September 18, 2018 (timesenterprise.com) According to an online news report from timesenterprise.com, a Georgia State Patrol Trooper was involved in a wreck September 17 while responding to a vehicle accident call in Thomasville, Georgia.*

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on September 17, the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a hit-and-run vehicle accident. A woman said a vehicle hit her car and took off on East Pinetree, running a stop sign in the process. A Thomas County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene and stopped the fleeing vehicle by “tapping it.” The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was driven by 21-year-old Akeria Derodshane Collins, of Thomasville. The driver of the vehicle Collins hit has not been identified.

At the same time, a Georgia State Patrol Trooper was also responding to the hit-and-run call in Thomasville. The Trooper crashed into another vehicle while traveling to the scene. The Trooper’s 2015 Dodge Charger struck a 2015 Chrysler minivan on southbound Old Monticello Road. Following impact, the patrol vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway and overturned before hitting a tree. The minivan traveled off the west side of the roadway.

The Trooper, the driver of the minivan, and a passenger in the minivan were transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. They have not been identified, and their current medical conditions are not known. 

Collins was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and eluding. Other traffic charges are pending. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident involving the Trooper. It is not clear why this accident occurred.
