Authorities Make Arrest in Peachtree City Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

September 19, 2018

PEACHTREE CITY, GA. – September 17, 2018 (ajc.com) Authorities in Peachtree City, Georgia, have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that occurred September 13 and claimed the life of a teenager. The details of the story are reported online at ajc.com.*

At approximately 11:20 p.m. on September 13, a 17-year-old male was found lying along the southbound lanes of Highway 74, just north of Paschal Road in Peachtree City. He had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Authorities began investigating the case as a hit-and-run fatality. (The teen has been identified, but his name is withheld from this article for privacy reasons.)

Soon after the accident, the family of the teenager found a crashed golf cart near the area where he had been found. The cart was in a grassy patch off of the road directly across from where the teen was found. The cart had no significant damage. Peachtree City Police then believed the teen was involved in an accident on the golf cart prior to being struck in the road. Police continued searching for the driver involved in the accident and asked the public for help with any information.

On September 17, the Peachtree City Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in the case. Elaina Marie Montelongo, 25, of Newnan, Georgia, has been arrested and is facing felony charges of hit-and-run, failure to render aid, and theft by conversion. It appears Montelongo struck the teenager while he was riding the golf cart, but the circumstances of the case are still not entirely clear.

Police are still interested in tips or any information about the incident that members of the public can provide. Information can be submitted by calling (770) 487-8866, by texting PTCTIPS to 275637, or anonymously through tipsubmit.com.
