Car Accident in Cook County, Georgia, Kills Three

ADEL, GA. – September 15, 2018 (wtxl.com) A vehicle crash in Cook County, Georgia, September 15 left three people dead, according to an online news report from wtxl.com.*

On the afternoon of September 15, a 2007 Ford F-150 and a 2001 Chevy Silverado collided in Adel, Georgia. The exact location was not reported, nor was the cause of the accident. Following impact, the F-150 caught on fire. 

The driver of the F-150, 39-year-old William Hinson, of Waycross, Georgia, died in the crash. The driver of the Silverado, 64-year-old Edgan Walker, and his wife, 67-year-old Patricia Walker, both of Adel, also died in the crash. 

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Cook County EMS, and Cook County Fire Department responded to the scene. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident and has not released additional information at this time. 

Cook County is located in the southern portion of the state of Georgia, near the southern border. It has an estimated population of 17,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 41. 

Though accident totals have remained relatively low compared to those of surrounding counties, vehicle accidents have almost doubled in Cook County during the last several years, and fatal accidents have quadrupled. Per information from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the total number of accidents in Cook County was 331 in 2012. These accidents led to 95 injuries and two deaths. 

These numbers rose steadily during the next several years. By 2016, accident totals in Cook County had reached 605. The 2016 accidents led to 121 injuries and eight deaths. Three fatal accidents in 2016 were related to alcohol consumption, and two were related to speeding.
