Federal Officials Investigating Fatal Workplace Accident in Canton, GA

September 19, 2018

CANTON, GA. – September 14, 2018 (patch.com) Federal officials are investigating a fatal workplace accident that occurred September 13 in Canton, Georgia, according to an online news report from patch.com.*

At approximately 8 a.m. on September 13, deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a work-related injury at East Gate Pallet in Canton. They arrived at 150 Bobo Trail near Holly Springs and found that 20-year-old Tabor Daniel Hayes had been “involved in what appear[ed] to be a workplace accident involving a table saw,” according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department.

Hayes was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. It is not clear how the accident occurred, but Cherokee County Sheriff’s officers did not suspect foul play. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been informed of the incident and is opening an investigation to determine whether any safety violations contributed to Hayes’s death. No additional information about the accident or the pending investigation has been released at this time.

According to an obituary, Tabor Daniel Hayes “loved life and spent it making others laugh.” He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his friends and family. The obituary says Hayes’ “smile could light up a room, and his sense of humor could turn gray skies blue. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”

Hayes is survived by his mother, Melissa Defillipo, and father, Robert Defillipo, both of Canton, along with several siblings and grandparents. The family is planning funeral services for September 18 at the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home in Canton.
