Georgia Man Needs Kidney Transplant 11 Years After Major Car Accident

September 16, 2018

NEWNAN, GA. – September 14, 2018 (times-herald.com) More than 11 years after a car accident that nearly killed him, a man from Newnan, Georgia, needs a kidney transplant. The story is reported online at times-herald.com.*

On January 15, 2007, Marcus Rosser, 46, of Newnan, was driving on Carrollton Highway when his vehicle was T-boned by another car coming down Macedonia Road. Rosser opened his car door after the accident and fell to the ground, unable to move his right leg. As he lay in the road, another vehicle speeding down the highway ran into Rosser’s stalled car.

“My car and the second car ran over me,” Rosser said. “I just remember hollering … the pain was excruciating.”

Rosser went to Atlanta Medical Center, where doctors performed an 18-hour operation to repair the damage in his body. Rosser says he now has plates in his hips, pelvis, back, and leg. Almost 700 nuts and bolts are holding him together, he says. Since that day, despite the bleak outlook from his doctors, Rosser has made major strides. He started walking again in February 2007 and has been working to rebuild his life.

But last year, Rosser suddenly fell extremely ill. He ended up in a coma on his 45th birthday. When he awoke, doctors told him his kidneys were failing. He has started regular dialysis and needs a kidney transplant. His cousin is a match and has agreed to donate a kidney, but Rosser needs to gather enough money to cover the surgery and anti-rejection medications.

He’s decided to hold a benefit concert on September 15, from which he hopes to raise $50,000. He knows it’s a lot of money, but he is hopeful things will work out. “I love giving back to community,” Rosser said. “Hopefully, people will help me out. But if not, I’m not going to let it get to me because I know God will make a way for me.”
