Georgia Man Charged for Vehicle Theft and Deadly Accident in Arkansas

HOT SPRINGS, AR. – September 13, 2018 (thv11.com) According to an online article from thv11.com, a man from Georgia has been charged in connection with a vehicle theft that turned into a deadly vehicle accident September 12 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.*

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Hot Springs Police Department responded to a call about a vehicle theft on Linwood Street. The vehicle was reported as a silver 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Officers spotted the car in the area of Third Street and Hobson Street at about 11:20 a.m., and they attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Hicks Circle and Albert Pike Road. At this point, the driver of the stolen vehicle, 19-year-old Gystin Michael Parker, of Riverdale, Georgia, sped away from the officers. 

Officers initially pursued Parker but called off the chase because of dangerous speeds in neighborhoods. Minutes later, police found the stolen Hyundai wrecked on Albert Pike Road. Parker had crashed into the driver’s side of a 2000 Toyota Corolla. It is not yet clear how the crash occurred. Two people in the Toyota, 49-year-old George Luster and 51-year-old Katherine Luster, tragicallydied in the crash. 

Parker was arrested and charged with felony theft by receiving and felony fleeing in a vehicle. He was booked into the Garland County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond. Authorities and prosecutors are continuing to investigate the incident, and more charges could follow, pending the results of their investigations. No additional information has been released at this time.
