UPDATE: Identity Released of Man Struck by Semi While Fleeing GA Police

September 16, 2018

HENRY COUNTY, GA. – September 13, 2018 ( The identity of a man who was struck and killed by a semi-truck while fleeing police in Henry County, Georgia, has been released. The man was on the run from authorities after a traffic stop September 13, according to an online news report from*

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on September 13, a police officer attempted to perform a routine traffic stop in Locust Grove, Henry County. The driver of the vehicle got out of the car right after stopping and fled on foot into a wooded area. The officer pursued but lost the man in the trees. The man has now been identified by the Henry County Coroner as 23-year-old Brian Sprouse, of Fayetteville, Georgia. It is not clear why he was initially stopped or why he fled.

Sprouse’s car was towed from the site of the traffic stop, and officers called off the search to respond to other emergency calls. Several hours later, Sprouse attempted to cross Interstate 75 on foot. The driver of a northbound tractor-trailer traveling in the middle lane of the interstate said Sprouse appeared on the roadway from a wooded median. The tractor-trailer could not avoid the collision and struck Sprouse. He died on the scene. Georgia State Patrol arrived on the scene at approximately 5 a.m., and authorities identified Sprouse as the man they’d been pursuing hours earlier.

Investigation shut down all lanes of I-75 North near Bill Gardner Parkway in Locust Grove. Traffic backups from the closures stretched from Locust Grove through McDonough. Lanes were finally reopened at about 8 a.m.

Henry County authorities and Georgia State Patrol are continuing to investigate this matter and have not provided additional details to the public at this time.
