One Dead, Three Injured After Bryan County Vehicle Accident

BRYAN COUNTY, GA. – September 13, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a vehicle accident September 13 in Bryan County, Georgia, left one person dead and three others injured.*

The accident occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. on September 13 on U.S. 280, between Deer Run and Interstate 16. Three vehicles collided, after which one of the vehicles caught on fire. Emergency responders found the driver of the vehicle on fire was still trapped in the car when they arrived, and bystanders and nearby residents were using fire extinguishers to try to control the flames and free the driver. That driver, who has not been identified, was freed and transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries. His or her current medical condition is not known. 

A second vehicle was smoking when emergency response arrived, and rescue crews found the driver deceased. He or she has not been identified. Two other people involved in the accident were injured and transported to a local hospital. They have not been identified, and their medical conditions are not known. 

Bryan County is located in the southeastern portion of the state of Georgia. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the number of vehicle accidents in Bryan County has increased during the last several years. A total of 937 vehicle accidents occurred in the county in 2016, compared to 287 in 2012. 

The 2016 accidents resulted in 275 injuries and 13 fatalities. Two of the fatal accidents that year involved pedestrians, and 20 of the fatal accidents involved speeding or alcohol consumption on the part of one of the drivers. Four of the people killed in vehicle collisions in Bryan County in 2016 were not wearing seat belts.
