Clayton County, GA, Teen Struck by Car, Seriously Injured

September 20, 2018

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – September 12, 2018 ( A teenager was struck by a car September 6 while crossing the street in Clayton County, Georgia, according to an online news story from*

On the afternoon of September 6, 13-year-old Kamya Taylor was walking home from school with her twin sister and attempted to cross a street on their route in Clayton County. A vehicle struck her in the road, and she was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston with serious injuries.

Taylor is currently in the intensive care unit at the children’s hospital, where her mother, Kori Farmer, says she has swelling in her brain. Doctors have implanted an electronic device to monitor the swelling, Farmer says, and have placed a drain to try to reduce the pressure.

Taylor is a student at Jonesboro Middle School, where she is a well-liked honor student, athlete, and cheerleader. Her parents say classmates of Taylor’s have sent numerous cards and heartfelt messages that now decorate the walls of her hospital room.

“Our daughter is truly loved, and we are thankful for the love and support that has been extended to our daughter,” her father, Louis Taylor, said. “I’m just asking for people to pray.”

Taylor’s parents are encouraged by the support they have received and are hanging on to hope that their daughter will come out of this with no lasting issues. “We just want full recovery,” Farmer said. “We want our little girl to be able to swim, dance, cheer, run track, and still be the young lady that she is. We don’t want to lose any part that she is.”

The family has created a GoFundMe account to raise donations for Taylor’s medical treatment and recovery expenses. No information was reported about the driver who hit Taylor or the circumstances of the crash.
