Bibb County, GA, Vehicle Crash Leaves One Man Dead
MACON, GA. – September 12, 2018 (41nbc.com) A man driving in Bibb County, Georgia, died after crashing his vehicle September 12, according to an online news report from 41nbc.com.*
The crash occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on September 12 in Bibb County. On Forest Hill Road, near the intersection with Northside Drive, 46-year-old William Spence left the roadway in his Nissan Pathfinder and traveled into a wooded area, where he struck a tree. Emergency responders found Spence unresponsive and transported him to Northside Coliseum Hospital. He died of his injuries at the hospital.
It is not clear what caused Spence to leave the roadway, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to call (478) 571-7500.
Bibb County is located in the central portion of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of approximately 155,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 16, Interstate 75, Interstate 475, U.S. Route 23, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 80, and U.S. Route 129.
Vehicle accidents in Bibb County have seen a dramatic increase in the last several years, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 858 accidents occurred in the county, leading to 220 injuries and 17 fatalities. The total number of accidents actually dropped the following year, to 696, but the number of fatalities grew to 31, which was the highest number of traffic deaths in Bibb County during a five-year period.
After 2013, vehicle accidents in Bibb County skyrocketed. In 2014, 2,547 accidents happened in the county, leading to 689 injuries and 23 deaths. By 2016, a total of 7,617 accidents occurred in the county, which resulted in injuries to 2,144 people and in the deaths of 28 people.
