Motorcyclist Killed in South Carolina Vehicle Collision

AIKEN COUNTY, SC. – September 11, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a motorcyclist was killed September 11 in a vehicle collision in Aiken County, South Carolina.*

At approximately 5:47 a.m. on September 11, 26-year-old Tron D. Lampkin was riding a motorcycle southbound on SC-421/Augusta Road. Near the intersection with Warren Street, a vehicle pulled out from a private drive and into the path of Lampkin’s motorcycle. Lampkin attempted to avoid the collision by laying down the bike, but the two still collided. 

Lampkin tragically died on the scene from his injuries. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office says an autopsy will be performed in Newberry, South Carolina. It does not appear the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Kala Haskell, was injured. 

One lane of Augusta Road was closed following the accident as crews investigated. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional information at this time. It is not clear why Haskell pulled out in front of Lampkin. 

In the state of Georgia, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, more than 10 percent of all traffic fatalities involve motorcyclists. Approximately 173 motorcyclists died in motor vehicle accidents in 2016, which represented a 26 percent increase in motorcyclist fatalities since 2014. In 2017, 209 motorcyclists were killed in vehicle crashes, and data indicate 3 percent of those people were not wearing helmets. So far in 2018, the Office reports 264 people have died in motorcycle accidents in Georgia, three of whom were not wearing helmets.
