Georgia Man Injured in Fatal Collision on Alabama Highway 35

JACKSON COUNTY, AL. – September 9, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a man from Georgia was injured in a head-on collision September 7 that resulted in the death of the other driver.*

At approximately 2:35 p.m. on September 7, a 2016 Toyota and a 2009 Chevrolet collided head-on on Al. 35, a few miles south of Scottsboro, Alabama. The driver of the Chevrolet, 73-year-old Willie Johnson, of Andersonville, Georgia, and an unidentified passenger in his vehicle were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. The extent of their injuries and their current medical conditions have not been reported. 

The driver of the Toyota, 89-year-old Williard Parker, of Rainsville, Alabama, was seriously injured in the collision and transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Alabama State Troopers are investigating the crash and have not released additional information at this time. It is not clear what caused the collision to occur. 

According to data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, more than 34,000 fatal vehicle crashes occurred in the United States in 2016. These accidents resulted in the deaths of more than 37,000 people. The fatalities averaged 11.6 per 100,000 people and 1.16 per every 100 million miles traveled in the United States. 

Georgia’s 2016 fatality rates, according to the IIHS data, were well above the national averages. The state’s individual data shows 15.1 deaths in 2016 per every 100,000 people and 1.29 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled. Alabama’s fatality rates were even higher, according to IIHS. Alabama had 21.3 deaths in 2016 per every 100,000 people and 1.49 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled.
