Nissan Recalling Vehicles in Canada for Ignition Issues

September 11, 2018

CANADA – September 6, 2018 ( According to an online news story from, automaker Nissan is recalling numerous vehicle models due to issues with the ignition systems.*

Transport Canada recently published a notice regarding a recall of several Nissan vehicles, including:

  • Nissan Micras (2017 – 2018)
  • Nissan Frontiers (2017 – 2018)
  • Nissan Sentras (2017)
  • Nissan Versa Notes (2017 – 2018)
  • Nissan NVs (2017)

In total, the recall affects 13,223 vehicles in Canada. These Nissan models are equipped with a mechanical key ignition system (not a pushbutton start), and the ignition switch can apparently wear and break. If this occurs, the key can move from the “on” position to the “ACC” (accessories) position while the vehicle is in motion. The engine will then shut off suddenly, causing the driver to not only lose engine power but also lose use of power steering, brakes, and airbags.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Nissan, after which they can bring their vehicles to a local dealership for repairs. In the meantime, Transport Canada advises owners of these vehicles to remove any heavy keychains or objects from their ignition keys and to avoid touching the keys while their vehicles are in motion.

Nissan owners can visit the automaker’s website to check whether their vehicles are subject to the recall. In the United States, vehicle owners can always visit the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and enter their vehicle identification numbers to see if their cars are subject to any open recalls.
