Georgia Southern Student Severely Injured in Fall at Fraternity House

September 12, 2018

STATESBORO, GA. – September 6, 2018 ( A student at Georgia Southern University was severely injured in a fall August 31 at a campus fraternity house. The story is reported online at*

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 31 at the Sigma Chi fraternity house on Greek Row. The Statesboro Police Department responded to the house on Olympic Boulevard on a report of a fall. They arrived to find sophomore Danielle “Elle” Kolb had somehow fallen from a second-story window of the fraternity house. Her injuries indicated she landed feet first.

Kolb was transported to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, with an L-2 burst fracture to her spine. She underwent a nine-hour surgery to stabilize her spine. Her parents said Kolb would have to participate in at least two years of rehabilitation and that it was not clear if she would ever be able to walk again.

It is still not clear how the fall occurred. Statesboro Police has closed its case regarding the incident and is not pursuing a criminal investigation. The Kolb family has reportedly retained legal counsel to investigate the matter further and determine if legal action is warranted. Kolb’s parents told reporters that they have yet to hear from Sigma Chi at Georgia Southern or from the fraternity’s national headquarters.

Family and friends of Elle Kolb have created a GoFundMe page to help the Kolb family raise funds for medical expenses, rehabilitation, and home accommodations. The page says Kolb’s recovery process is “in full motion,” and that Kolb is “showing improvement every day.”
